Fupper - Nullius LP
‘Nullius’ is the fourth Fupper album for Wrong Speed Records, the second on vinyl and comes with a limited edition companion book of the same name for the first 50 copies sold.
This album marks Fupper’s 22nd release in a project that has lasted for over 30 years. "Nullius" is a Latin word that translates to "of no one" or “nobody’s". The album and book act as an exploration of both the idea of ‘Nullius’ and the effect of ‘fusion’, where different characters attempt to connect, people behaving like molecules, atoms and particles, pulling in or pushing away. The characters in the story sit somewhere between isolation and integration and the music evolves around this, each feeding into the other, until they are alone for one night.
The Sounds
Nostalgic guitar, down-tuned xylophone, harmonica, slumbering bass, crumbling rhythms fed through manipulated 1/4” tape loops spilling out their own found sounds and curios, gathered together on a 4 track and sampler and let breath for two years until they found their way.
The Words
A mother and a daughter, a new house with a circular window in the attic, abandoned post, abandoned white goods and industry, carpets and ripped wallpaper, dancing leaves and an ocean like warm butter, rustling sounds and a persistent stranger, a diorama of boxes and an islet of shingle, two curious companions and an ambiguous evolving energy in the distance and within, all fusing together in the sweltering heat.
From Joe Thompson (WSR)
There isn't a music maker like Fupper. In the 30+ years of knowing him, working with him on projects (Blackhorse / Stanton), releasing his music on various labels (Lone Hand / Jonson Family / Wrong Speed) and spending long nights chatting in establishments around Green Lanes (North London), his ideology has never altered. We couldn't tell you what that ideology is. It just 'is'.
If we had to try and put it into words it'd be something like 'let it be, give it time, find the feeling'. His music is dusty and haunted. It's a blurry city. It's being invisible on a busy pavement. It's decades flying by a year an hour as single minutes take days. His music is everything slowed down. His music is made with feeling, it's made to make you feel.
We think it's amazing to be releasing his albums on the label. We release them because we love them.
